Netflix Will Ban Cryptocurrency And Gambling Ads

  • Netflix plans to limit available ads at the cheapest subscription tier
  • Gambling, politics, medicines, and cryptocurrency will be banned
  • The changes will come into effect on November 1

In July, major media holding Netflix said it was planning to add a cheaper subscription with built-in ads. At the same time, the company adheres to conservative views regarding marketing, since the service will ban any videos about cryptocurrency and gambling.

This was stated by the portal The Syndey Morning Herald, citing an anonymous source. Note that in Australia, Germany, the United States, and Canada, a new subscription from Netflix will work from November 1.

The approximate cost of monthly access to video materials will be about $7. The initiative has received mixed reactions, with most of the dissatisfied commentators criticizing the idea for the mere fact of having ads.

It “cost” Netflix a million users in the second quarter. And now the company opposes itself to the field of cryptocurrencies, comparing digital assets with gambling.

These categories of content will be prohibited from being shown in ads on the service. Similar measures were taken by TikTok last year and Meta in 2018.

The holding is also considering a ban on videos promoting certain pharmaceuticals and campaign materials.
