Amazon May Sell Nfts In The Future
In issuing the first letter to Amazon shareholders since Jeff Bezos took over as CEO in July 2021, Andy Jassi stated that international online retail platform Amazon could potentially sell non-fungible tokens in the future.
“I think it’s possible in the future on the platform,” Jassie was quoted as saying in an interview with CNBC.
Yassy adds that he doesn’t own Bitcoin or NFTs and doesn’t think Amazon is close to adding crypto payment options in the future, but he does think crypto will become more significant over time.
If Amazon implements NFTs on its platform, it will compete with other online retailers such as eBay, which started selling NFTs in May 2021.
While there are no concrete plans to add digital assets to its e-commerce marketplace in the near future, Amazon seems determined to add Web3 technology to its business model.
In July 2021, Amazon opened for a Lead Digital Currency and Blockchain Specialist to help develop a Web3-focused strategy and product roadmap.
The company still has open positions for blockchain-focused roles such as Senior Product Manager on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Blockchain team.
