Headhunter: There Is A Shortage Of Ai Developers In Russia

Russian companies faced with a shortage of AI developers, and foreign sanctions in connection with the war in Ukraine exacerbated the situation.

According to the recruiting service HeadHunter, no more than two specialists apply for one vacancy in the field of artificial intelligence. From January to March 2022, analysts found only 16,000 resumes of AI engineers, while in March alone, more than 200,000 profiles were identified for IT specialties.

Sanctions limited developers’ access to international data repositories for training neural networks and caused a shortage of necessary computing power due to the termination of cloud service operators in the Russian Federation. This led to the suspension of many AI projects in the public sector and business, as well as to the desire of some IT specialists to leave the country, Kommersant writes.

Ai Institute To Be Created In Eastern Europe With The Support Of Tech Giants

Amazon, Google and DeepMind supported creation of the INSAIT Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Technology in Eastern Europe.

The Bulgarian government, together with the Swiss universities ETH Zurich and EPFL, will build a research center in Sofia. The country’s authorities are confident that INSAIT will help in the development of artificial intelligence and computing, as well as prevent the leakage of talented programmer scientists from the region.

The Bulgarian government will allocate $100 million over 10 years to develop the institute and turn the area into a leading center for computer research, as well as “bridging the technological gap between Eastern and Western Europe.”

INSAIT will receive support from AWS, Google and DeepMind in the amount of $3.75 million, $3 million and $285,000, respectively. The funds will support research on automated thinking, cloud computing resources, and funding scholarships for women at the institute.

Media: Apple Is Testing New Chips Of Its Own Production M2

Apple start test at least nine Mac models with four different M2 models. This may indicate the imminent presentation of new computers, journalist Mark Gurban said.

According to the logs of third-party applications from the App Store that ran on unannounced chips, the processor has eight central and 10 graphics cores. The previous model contains eight cores of each type.

Gurman also said that the company is testing new laptops based on M2 Max chips with 12 central and 38 graphics cores (compared to 10 and 32 in current models).

According to the source, the company is preparing successors to the M1 Pro and M1 Ultra models.

An Application For Safe School Experiments In Augmented Reality Was Released In Ukraine

Ukrainian developers have created a mobile application for schoolchildren AR_Book with a virtual laboratory for safe experiments in augmented reality.

Interactive practical classes in physics, chemistry, biology and other subjects are based on Ukrainian textbooks. All experiments can be downloaded to a smartphone for offline use.

The application is free, it is available to users Android and iOS.

Australian court overturns decision recognizing AI as an inventor

Federal Court of Australia canceled the decision to recognize artificial intelligence as an “inventor” under the country’s patent law.

A panel of five judges ruled that only “individuals” could be considered authors. In their opinion, AI systems cannot be indicated by inventors in Australian patent applications, but this does not exclude the possibility of registration of discoveries made by artificial intelligence.

Earlier, the founder of Imagination Engines, Stephen Thaler, tried to register two inventions on behalf of the DABUS neural network in several countries. The regulators rejected it and stated that only a human could be the author. However, the Australian court acknowledged The patent office’s decision was illegal and ordered the office to reconsider the application.

Meta intends to release an augmented reality headset in 2024.

According to The Verge, the first version of Project Nazare AR glasses will be able to work independently of the smartphone. The gadget will function together with a “phone-shaped device” for processing calculations and a CTRL-Labs wristband that reads electrical impulses for control.

Presumably, the headset with a “socially acceptable” appearance will be based on Android. It will be able to support “full” AR with 3D visualization, eye tracking, and stereo sound. The glasses will be equipped with an outward-facing camera with a relatively wide field of view. A feature of the gadget will be communication with the “holograms” of other people.

Meta also plans to release a simplified version of AR glasses called Hypernova that will work in conjunction with a smartphone. The device will debut in 2024.

Louis Vuitton Accused Of Illegal Collection Of Biometric Data

Fashion and accessories manufacturer Louis Vuitton accused in the illegal collection of buyers’ biometric data through an online tool for virtual fitting of sunglasses and frames.

According to the class action lawsuit, LVMH North America obtains detailed and sensitive information, including full facial scans, through Virtual Try-On, without prior consent or warning from consumers that such information is being collected.

The virtual fitting tool is available on the LVMH website. With the help of a webcam, he creates a live video with the client in the selected frames or sunglasses. The collected data is translated into computer code and allegedly sent to an external server, where it is subsequently stored, the complaint alleges.

The lawsuit cites the Illinois Biometric Privacy Protection Act. It prohibits the collection and storage of such information without the consent of the person, and also provides for a fine of $1,000 to $5,000 for each violation.

Louis Vuitton North America declined to comment.

Robomobil “Tried” To Escape From The Police In San Francisco

Drone Cruise confused San Francisco police when officers tried to stop a driverless robot taxi.

A Twitter user shared a video on the social network, which captured the attempt of law enforcement officers to detain a car, presumably due to the headlights being turned off while driving at night. After waiting for the officer, the drone continued driving, crossed the intersection at a green traffic light and stopped at the side of the road, probably considering this place to be safer.

The company said that the autonomous driving system responded to the approach of the patrol and the requirement to stop as programmed. The officer contacted Cruise employees via a 24-hour special telephone line and received all clarifications, the startup added.

The device tracks temperature, coffee volume and time data. The system also uses predictive analytics in the preparation of the drink.

The device will be tested in the American chain of bakeries Panera Bread. Miso Robotics believes that CookRight Coffee will eliminate human intervention and help restaurants operate more efficiently.

Niantic has developed a new game in augmented reality

Niantic introduced the AR game Peridot. It’s like a combination of Tamagotchi and Pokémon Go.

Gamers need to breed and care for unique virtual pets.

“Peridots or Dots have been sleeping for thousands of years and now they need the help of players to survive: feeding, research, entertainment and development to adulthood,” the press release says.

The company plans to soft-launch the app in some markets soon. Applicants may apply to the waiting list.
