The former head of the financial regulator in Brazil, Enrique Meirellis, has become part of the Binance team. The expert will serve as an adviser to the company’s advisory board.
This was stated by the local news portal O Globo. Binance confirmed the appointment of Meirellis, but did not disclose details regarding his work in the new position.
It is known that the ex-head of the Central Bank will enter the advisory council. It is possible that Meirellis will support the stock exchange on legal issues.
He headed the regulator from 2003 to 2011. Then he was the Minister of Finance of the country for two years. Experts agree that Meirellis may return to the office if Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva wins the next election.
He also headed the Department of Finance of the state of São Paulo. As for cryptocurrencies, Meirellis takes a cautious stance. He recognizes this direction as promising but also advocates the all-encompassing control of the state in this area.
“We want the rules to protect investors first,” Meirellis said in an interview with The Nation View.
At the same time, the ex-head of the Central Bank urges investors to be careful. He insists that investing in this segment must be a sensible and carefully prepared step.
