Jewelry Care: A Guide To Action
In order for jewelry to please you for many years, it is important to properly care for them. It is important to remember that both gold and silver are soft metals and, if used carelessly, can quickly scratch or darken.
To preserve the appearance of products, we recommend:
- remove jewelry during cleaning (especially if you use household chemicals), as well as when applying creams or cosmetics: hairspray, perfume, face creams – all these wonderful products, unfortunately, do not extend the life of the jewelry;
- store all jewelry separately from each other , in our branded bags or boxes, it is extremely important not to allow items made of different metals to come into contact. When going on a trip, do not forget to take care of the transportation of jewelry: use hard boxes or a jewelry box, this will prevent deformation of the products;
- If possible, avoid mechanical impact on jewelry : remember that contact with door handles, car steering wheels, as well as other jewelry when worn, accelerates abrasion of both gold and rhodium plating.
How to properly clean jewelry
The ideal care option is the professional cleaning of the product. But there is not always time to visit the nearest jeweler or contact us for service. Therefore, we will tell you a few life hacks for quickly and safely cleaning silver and gold. Save yourself so as not to lose:⠀
- Toothpaste – only white, without color additives! Squeeze a little directly onto the jewelry and gently wipe with a soft cloth (you can also use a brush, just make sure it’s soft and won’t scratch!).
- Ammonia and hydrogen peroxide – add two tablespoons of each substance to a liter of water, and then put the silver jewelry there for 15 minutes.
- Soap and baking soda – Dissolve a spoonful of baking soda and a little soap in a glass of water, and then put the jewelry into the solution for 15-20 minutes. This method is the safest for blackened silver.⠀
- Ammonia will help restore the gold to its former brilliance: dilute a teaspoon of alcohol in a glass of water (if the product also contains precious stones, then add six drops of ammonia), and dip the jewelry into this mixture for 15 minutes.
At the end of any procedure, the product must be thoroughly rinsed in clean water and wiped dry with a soft cloth or napkin. And no abrasive powders – they will only scratch the jewelry, this is especially detrimental to a matte surface. For professional home care, we recommend purchasing these cleaning products:
